First Sale!

There is nothing better then knowing you made something from what God gave us and someone else thinking it is worth paying for. Thank you to my buyers. Please remember these first few yarns are learning yarns and I realize as I spin more and more they get better and better.

I noticed by the time I had spun my Independence Day; I had improved 100% from my second yarn, County Fair with a Twist. Still keep your eye out for my newest spin...Cowgirl is on the way and softer than ever; made from haucaya alpaca. I'll be a pro in no time, especially if I keep getting paid! :)

A New Treasury for Etsy!

I just created this colorful treasury on Etsy of some really colorful handmade creations; check them out!

The New Age Spinner!

Recent statisics show 33% of knitters are between the ages of 10 and 20. I took it a step further and I am teaching my 9 year old to spin and knit.

A little about myself...
I am a wife, mother, farmer, Realtor, and a crafter living in Oregon Country. I own the smallest farm on the West coast and am patiently waiting for the market to turn around to be able to sell my home and buy a few acres just on the outskirts of town; where I'll be able to own a horse, a few cows, sheep and goats. Maybe even a pig. For now we are in limbo.

Spinning is an age old art of creating a way to warm the soul from the coats of creatures and many types of foliage. I have found that spinning is not a task or job, but an art! Anyone can make yarn, but not everyone can master the craft. Practice is key to manipulate the fiber into something you can use to knit or crochet.

Learning how to spin is the first step. I learned on my Step Mother's Clemes and Clemes, and then could not afford to buy my first spinning wheel right away, so I hand crafted a drop spindle. My first fiber was romney sheep wool that was very easy to work with and was forgiving to an armatures speed spinning or the occasional slip in the wrong direction. White romney dyes extremely well and slips well to create an even yarn. One problem with romney; it is not desirable against the skin.

Once I purchased my first spinning wheel; I was off and spinning like a maniac. Then I discovered alpaca. Wow, this is amazing stuff. Alpaca is more difficult to spin, due to the softness and fine texture of the hair, but with practice it becomes second nature.

I opened up shop on Etsy on May 15, 2010 and am patiently waiting on a sale and adding new yarns whenever I can. My Step Mother has offered to sell me the Clemes and Clemes and I am going to teach my daughter to spin also. Take a peek at some of my romney yarns and the alpaca is on the way!
